Disclosure: Fin Ventures AI has or is applying for affiliate relationships with several tools on this page (Systeme.io, Kit, MailerLite, Brevo). We may earn a commission at no cost to you. Every limit below comes from the vendor’s official pricing page, re-read on November 5, 2026. For details we could not confirm here, check the official site for current details.
The quick answer
- Best free plan for growing a creator newsletter: Kit — free up to 10,000 subscribers, unlimited sends.
- Best free all-in-one (email + funnels + course): Systeme.io — 2,000 contacts, unlimited emails, 3 funnels.
- Best for a tiny list that wants a polished editor and site builder: MailerLite — 250 subscribers, 2,500 emails/month.
- Best for large contact databases sending occasionally: Brevo — free plan capped at 300 emails per day.
Why “free” means different things
Free email plans are limited along four axes, and each vendor picks a different one:
- Subscribers/contacts — how many people can be on your list.
- Sends — how many emails you can send per day or month.
- Automation — how many automated sequences or rules you can run.
- Features — landing pages, forms, branding removal, integrations.
A plan that looks generous on one axis is often tight on another. The right free tool is the one whose limit you will hit last, given what you actually plan to do.

1. Kit — best free plan for creators
Kit (formerly ConvertKit) says its free plan lets you “build and engage an audience of up to 10,000 subscribers, for free”. Kit’s pricing FAQ also states that there are no sending limits on any plan. That combination — a high subscriber ceiling and no send cap — is what makes Kit’s free tier stand out in 2026.
Good to know (official FAQ):
- Creator and Pro plans have a 14-day free trial, no card required; after the trial you can stay on the free plan.
- When you exceed your plan’s subscriber limit, Kit automatically upgrades you to the next tier.
- Refunds are available within the first 30 days on paid plans.
- Free migration is offered for paid plans.
Limits we could not verify today: exactly which automations and integrations are restricted on the free plan, and current per-tier prices for Creator and Pro. Check kit.com/pricing for your list size.
Choose Kit if: you’re a creator building a newsletter and want room to grow without paying.
2. Systeme.io — best free all-in-one
Systeme.io is not a pure email tool: it bundles email with sales funnels, courses, a blog and checkout. Its free plan (official FAQ, updated April 2026) includes 2,000 contacts, unlimited emails sent, 3 sales funnels, 1 course, 1 blog and 1 custom domain, with no expiry and no credit card.
The real limits: 1 automation rule and 1 email campaign on free. That’s enough to deliver a lead magnet automatically and send a weekly broadcast; it is not enough for complex segmentation.
Choose Systeme.io if: you need the opt-in page, the thank-you page, the emails and maybe a small course in one place, at $0.

3. MailerLite — best editor for a small list
MailerLite’s free plan is smaller in volume but rich in tooling. Per its pricing page:
- 250 subscribers and 2,500 monthly emails;
- 3 active automations, up to 5 steps each;
- 1 website and 1 landing page, 3 active forms;
- all three editors (drag & drop, custom HTML, simple);
- 2 user seats;
- a 14-day trial of premium features for new accounts.
Important: on the free plan, when active subscribers exceed 250, sending is locked (campaigns and automations) until you upgrade or remove subscribers. Paid plans start with Comfort from $12/month and Power from $25/month.
Choose MailerLite if: your list will stay small for a while and you want a polished editor, a simple site and automation templates.
4. Brevo — best for big contact lists, low frequency
Brevo’s free plan is “free forever, no credit card needed”. The pricing FAQ states that once your account is approved for sending, you can send up to 300 emails per day. Brevo prices its paid plans mainly on sending volume (the Starter plan is listed “from 5,000 emails per month”), which suits businesses with many contacts that email rarely. Brevo also includes transactional email features (API, SMTP, webhooks) on all plans, per the same FAQ.
Watch out: 300 emails per day means a single broadcast to 1,000 people would take several days on the free plan. Brevo’s free plan also shows the Brevo logo on emails (branding removal is listed as a paid feature).
Choose Brevo if: you have a large contact base, send occasionally, or need transactional email.
Head-to-head: which limit will you hit first?
| Your situation | Kit | Systeme.io | MailerLite | Brevo |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1,000 subscribers, weekly newsletter | Fine | Fine | Over cap | 4,000 sends/month at max 300/day: tight but workable |
| 5,000 subscribers, weekly newsletter | Fine | Over 2,000 cap | Over cap | Too slow on free |
| Lead magnet + 5-email sequence | Fine | Fine (1 rule) | Fine (3 automations) | Automation detail check the official site for current details |
| Opt-in page + course | Pages: check the official site for current details; no course | Fine | 1 landing page; no course | Forms only |
Compliance: the part free tools don’t do for you
Whatever tool you choose, Canadian law (CASL) requires consent, identification of the sender and a working unsubscribe mechanism in every commercial email. U.S. law (CAN-SPAM) requires a valid physical postal address and an opt-out. All four tools provide unsubscribe links, but you are responsible for collecting consent properly and for putting your identification and address in the footer.
Deliverability
We do not have independent inbox-placement data for these tools, and we will not quote third-party figures we cannot verify. What you can control: authenticate your domain (SPF, DKIM, DMARC), don’t import purchased lists, send consistently, and remove inactive subscribers.
Your first week on any free tool
The tool matters less than the first seven days. Whatever you pick:
- Write the promise of your list in one sentence: who it is for and what they receive.
- Create one lead magnet that solves a single problem in under ten minutes: a checklist, a template or a set of prompts.
- Build one signup form or page with a single email field and clear consent wording.
- Write five welcome emails: delivery, story, the tool you actually use, an honest comparison, a soft offer.
- Add your sender identification, postal address and unsubscribe link to the footer template once, so every email inherits it.
- Point every piece of content to the signup page: one link in bio, one niche English keyword under videos (LIST / EMAIL — see content/cta-keywords.md), one link in each article.
- Measure one number per week, starting with the signup rate of your page.
Every free plan in this guide can run that entire week at $0.
Our recommended path at $0
- Creator first: start on Kit free, use Systeme.io free for opt-in pages if you need funnels.
- Funnel first: start on Systeme.io free and only add a separate email tool when one automation rule becomes the bottleneck.
- Tiny list, design-sensitive: MailerLite free, and plan the upgrade before you pass 250.

How we evaluated
We read the official pricing pages of Kit, MailerLite, Brevo and Systeme.io on November 5, 2026, and only list limits stated there. Where a vendor shows prices dynamically or a detail was unclear, we point to the official site rather than guess. We did not test deliverability.
